Best Sights & Activities -(Golf Courses)
Charleston National Country Club
(Sights & Activities - Golf Courses)
1360 National DrMount Pleasant SC 29464 843-884-7799
Description:
MOUNT PLEASANT. Surrounded by marsh and situated along the coast, this course presents a number of challenges. Playing to almost 7000 yards from the tips, long and accurate tee shots will help give you a good round on this difficult course. Marsh separates most tee boxes from the fairways, and carries over hazards are often found on approach shots as well. With the beautiful scenery comes wind, which can add to the test on this terrific course.
Cougar Point at Kiawah Island Golf Resort
(Sights & Activities - Golf Courses)
12 Kiawah Beach DrKiawah Island SC 29455 843-768-2121
Description:
KIAWAH ISLAND. Unless you're hitting it down the pipe, leave the driver in the bag on this relatively short course. Accuracy off the tee is a must since most fairways are bordered by hazards namely marshlands. Miss these small greens, and par becomes a good score. However, hitting the green doesn't mean the test is over. You have to keep the ball below the hole for a better chance at making the putt on Cougar Point's sloping greens. Designed by Gary Player, who also reconceived the course in 1996. 6,523 yards, par 72.
Country Club of Charleston
(Sights & Activities - Golf Courses)
1 Country Club DrCharleston SC 29412 843-795-2312
Description:
Founded in 1786, this historic course has been deemed the first established in the United States. Open only to members and their guests, this exclusive course is a fair test for all golfers. Average in length, several short par-4's and a short par-5 offer reasonable opportunities for birdies.
Crooked Oaks
(Sights & Activities - Golf Courses)
3772 Seabrook Island RdJohns Island SC 29455 843-768-1000
Description:
JOHNS ISLAND. This private course (open only to resort guests) takes advantage of a picturesque setting featuring live oak trees, including an imposing crooked oak specimen that lies along the fairway of the fourth hole. Along with undulating fairways, the wooded course also features a rarity in the area: Crenshaw bentgrass greens. Mechanically maintained underground, they're a welcome perk. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. 6387 yards, par 72.
Crowfield Golf and Country Club
(Sights & Activities - Golf Courses)
300 Hamlet CirGoose Creek SC 29445 843-764-4618
Description:
Built on the grounds of an old Southern plantation, much of the natural terrain was used to give this course its character. With a variety of holes, each shot presents a different test. Well-placed bunkers will collect errant shots, and a water hazard occasionally will come into play. Surrounded by history, this course is enjoyable for all.
