HISTORIC DISTRICT. Set in a historic former warehouse, AW Shucks is a seafood gem. Menu selections include oysters and clams on the half shell, seafood chowder, deviled crabs, shrimp Creole, shrimp and grits, and oysters prepared several different ways. A wide selection of international beers helps to wash it all down. Opt for a table outside on the patio, which overlooks the public market.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. Located just one block off of the Market, this romantic hideaway has consistently served some of the best contemporary local dishes to be found anywhere. Soft lighting and cozy banquettes provide an ideal backdrop for great food and outstanding service. Enjoy some of Charleston's best she-crab soup as well as entrées of shrimp and grits, fried corn bread oysters, and barbecued grouper.

HISTORIC DISTRICT. Sister restaurant to Magnolia's, located just next door. House specialties include homemade bread, pizzas, pastas and risottos. If the weather permits, try and dine al fresco on the beautifully landscaped patio. Sunday brunch is popular, with options such as crawfish and shrimp etouffee, honey-pumpkin stuffed French toast, a grilled salmon-fried egg sandwich, pulled pork hash, and a sausage and shrimp omelette. Great food in a pleasant atmosphere.

JAMES ISLAND. When the original Bowen's burned down in 2006, it was a sad, sad day in Charleston. That same year, the owner accepted a James Beard award, and undaunted, he set about rebuilding the place that had been in his family for 60 years. It's a bit fresher looking now, but patrons are still encouraged to leave their mark on the walls, the oysters are still shoveled onto your table right from the makeshift steamer and the Bud is still perfectly chilled. Not an oyster fan? Opt for fried shrimp fish and hushpuppies instead!

The restaurant offers cozy dockside dining and spectacular water views, especially at sunset. Enjoy their special Charleston Grouper, Mahi Mahi El Greco, or the massive "Billy's" Big Crab & Shrimp Feast, which includes Alaskan snow crab and Lowcountry-style crab cakes.
